How does one organise hundreds of sewing thread spools?
What started out as an innocent bedroom drawer re-organisation at the beginning of the week has turned into a mammoth task of organising EVERYTHING around me. Armed with my trusty cleaning basket and a roll of plastic garbage bags I set out to de-clutter the house. It took all week but boy am I feeling a lot better!
I left my workspace till the end as it's the most overwhelming. I started to organise my sewing threads this morning. I inherited a LOT of spools from a deceased family member a few years ago who owned a haberdashry, and I had them stored in little boxes on my shelves. Since I never bothered to organise them in any way, I can never find the colour I need etc. I keep finding myself shopping for threads because I'm too lazy to go through the boxes to find what I want.
I've been feeling a slight 'pinch' in my right wrist every time I picked up a piece of knitting for the past few days so I decided to give myself a break this weekend and work on my neverending to-do list. First thing: Give the sewing machine a little clean...
The bobbin 'bit' was swimming in a pool of dust and lint that the poor thing kept jamming! So I spent the morning poking about in the crevices until I was satisfied that there were no more dust bunnies... I won't even go into how many cotton buds I went through! I found this great post at Craft Nectar on how to safely clean a sewing machine.
I've been living a high octane crafting lifestyle this past week... Knitting is really just taking over my life right now. My new spinning wheel is feeling neglected... Coffee helps.
I made some project bags to keep my WIPs in order...
Apologies for the blog-silence, despite my promises to blog regularly last month I really haven't had the inspiration! Honestly though, I've been extremely busy and simply hadn't had much to say! Nonetheless, I didn't intend to be away for this long and I WILL NOT let this happen again if I can help it!
My gorgeous little sisters have been making totes lately and I felt quite inspired to make my own. I'm heading to the Wonderwool Wales festival on Sunday and figured I might need a bag for all the yummy yarns I might pick up!
I purchased some lovely fabrics when I went home last christmas and made a shopping tote out of a blue gingham, and lined it with a lovely pink flowery paisley print fabric. Despite the pretty fabrics, the bag was as dull as boiled rice. So I went to work with an old pair of white jeans (I have plenty of fabrics but no plain white!) and some iron-on transfer paper and 'jazzed' it up a little!
