17 Feb 2010

My lovely friend Ellie has started a KAL for Not Socks in the Chopped Tomatoes Ravelry Group. I cast on the first glove in the first week of Feb and I have been knitting it at the group meets, I am at the hand ribbing section on the first glove so I'm making some decent progress considering the amount of dyeing I've been busy with!

A few members of Cardiff Knitters are taking part, and I'm finding it so interesting to see how the pattern knits up in various yarns, and how people I know are responding to the way that I write my patterns. So far I haven't had any complaints, so I'm happy happy!

The KAL has no official start or end date, so please join in if you have an orphan skein of sock yarn that might have a pair of gloves in it's destiny...

accidental wedding ring shawl

08 Feb 2010

I made this Aeolian Shawl with the Classic Cashmere (100% Pure Mongolian Cashmere from the shop) yarn, in the Farmer's Wife Colourway. I joined the 10 Shawls in 2010 group on Ravelry at the beginning of the year and I'm glad I finished shawl no. 1!

The shawl was knitted and blocked a few weeks ago, but I didn't get the chance to take photos of it until recently. It was knitted on 4mm needles, and used less than one 50g skein. I have a stack of 'oops' yarns (skeins that have dyed weird, accidentally snapped in places etc) that I'm going to use up in the challenge.

How does one organise hundreds of sewing thread spools?

What started out as an innocent bedroom drawer re-organisation at the beginning of the week has turned into a mammoth task of organising EVERYTHING around me. Armed with my trusty cleaning basket and a roll of plastic garbage bags I set out to de-clutter the house. It took all week but boy am I feeling a lot better!

I left my workspace till the end as it's the most overwhelming. I started to organise my sewing threads this morning. I inherited a LOT of spools from a deceased family member a few years ago who owned a haberdashry, and I had them stored in little boxes on my shelves. Since I never bothered to organise them in any way, I can never find the colour I need etc. I keep finding myself shopping for threads because I'm too lazy to go through the boxes to find what I want.

14 Jan 2010

At the beginning of the year I was looking for a large-ish project to use up some Rowan 4ply wool I had originally bought to make a sweater vest, I got very bored halfway up the back and just decided that it wasn't worth my time and energy if I wasn't enjoying it. I was looking through my Google Reader list and came across Roo Knits' blog, where she has started knitting a Hemlock Ring Blanket. I fell in love with the pattern immediately...

The blanket is worked in the round, easy to remember and ever so pretty. Best of all, it's not boring as you shape it all the way to the end. I casted on about a week ago and I love how fast it grows.
