make a wish for christmas competition

27 Jun 2010

I know what you're thinking... Has she lost her mind? Christmas is months away!

Rest assured, I haven't. I would like to gather some information from you crafty peeps about what you might like to see from Chopped Tomatoes for the coming festive season. This will be my first proper trading Christmas and I'd like to know what my readers would like to see available. Would you like some new yarns, patterns, colourways, or how-tos? Please feel free to post whatever you fancy!  To make it a little more interesting, I'm hosting this mini survey as a giveaway, with the prize being 2 skeins of pure cashmere yarn!

Guidelines:

Anyone living on Earth may enter. There are no country restrictions.

Post your wish in the comments section of this article, making sure to enter a valid email address so that I can contact you if you win.

Multiple entries are allowed, you can enter as many wishes as you want (the more the better.. I get a wider range of ideas, and you get more chances to win!)

Closing date for entries is July 31st, 2010.

Winner will be chosen using a random number generator, and will be contacted via email on August 1st 2010.

Help me prepare myself for the Christmas season, post your wishes and tell your friends! Thank you!

Fibre! I've been given a spindle by Ellie for my birthday last week and so I need fibre! (I do have some to start with, she wasn't mean enough to give me the spindle and nothing to try out on it!)

I'll have a good think about this one, good competition though, what would I like my yarnie santa to deliver? how about a knitting machine, oh, no I have one of those, could we have a KingBecky/Chopped Tomatoes collaboration? I think I would like to see more of your wonderful glove patterns, maybe one with holly leaves or a festive theme :) Bx

I would love to see a holiday version of the Bucalicious sweater with a holiday Bucalicious yarn. Cute! Too cute. Thanks for asking.

New colorways are always good, but it does look like you have a good range of colors already. I'd love to see some heavier weight yarns, somewhere in the worsted or DK range. And though I use them less (because they tend to be out of my price range), I love bulky weight yarn. It's so nice and cozy, and would be great for the winter season.

I entered and tried to send a second comment, but the spam filter stopped me …
I was going to suggest you try different colors (such as a pale blue) of your knitting journals. I love the fact that they’re pocket sized and include graph paper.

(machelle: I entered this myself because the spam filter was being silly!)

Green and silver...
Silver and black - will match my tree...
and I second the request for heavier wools in some shades - I want an aran jumper in Sister Sister

If you were able to spin a cashmere / silk yarn, with those lovely colours that you have, the silk would add a lovely sheen to your already lovely cashmere yarns!

for the holiday season, adding a little bit of silver to the lovely cashmere / wool yarns you have would definitely add a festive touch!

baby patterns with your lovely yarns (such as a hat and mittens) - the finished product would be a luxury baby knit / special gift :)

I know it has already been mentioned but I also wish you did heavier yarn like DK. I love Ellie's idea of a Mulled wine colour smelling of winter spices.

I have been searching for an aran- or chunky-weight yarn with high wool and low nylon content ratio for knitting into a pair of thick, washable, boot socks, in blues and blacks for a guy and autumn colours for me! :-D

Thanks for asking after our wishes!

For Christmas knitting - red and green sock yarn combo. Also, maybe white and blues- a wintery/snowy colourway. Personally I would love to make some 'not socks' ina Chritmas-sy colouway (I've made 2 pairs already).

I would also like a journal in 70's colours- browns, oranges etc. But that is a matter of personal taste :-)

I would like to see a lightly variegated sock yarn - not tonal, but with multiple colors. Also, I would love to see some silk blends.

I would love a nice and soft Black sock yarn with a Gold twist so I could make a pair of socks to wear with my sparkly toe post sandals as at the moment they are still in my wardrobe cos they rub my delicate tootsies. I want these socks sooo badly that I can provide the Gold for you as I have a big cone of it in my stash.

I was just thinking, typically, when looking for patterns, I search on Ravelry. You might sell more patterns via Ravelry compared to Etsy. You could include a link to your Etsy yarn shop somewhere when you list the pattern on Ravelry, that way, lots of knitters will find the pattern, and the most convenient way to get the yarn for that pattern.

I'd like a really nice, soft yarn in a soft dove grey with a hot water bottle cover pattern! Something really luxurious for a functional winter item!

I would love to see worsted and/or bulky yarns too!
Your colorways are beautiful, but I rarely use laceweight yarn so a heavier weight would be wonderful.

Also, just echo-ing what someone else said about your patterns in a book. i would love that. Or maybe a handful of patterns in the front of a journal so it's a journal/pattern book in one.

Another idea...(I really want that yarn, can you tell? lol!)
If you chose to do more worsted/bulky weight yarns, consider adding merino wool, like in your sock yarns. Lots of people look for thick wool blends during the colder months. Also, when I knit for charities, many of them request the fiber to be at least worsted thickness, and at least 70% wool for extra warmth.

Another market I have thought about myself for my knitting business is vegan yarns. Some people are allergic to cashmere and wool, and spinning other fibers might open up your audience a bit.

I am going to suggest more colourways with shades of gray / smoke / taupe mixed with some of your beautiful brighter colours - some of my "wiser" (i.e. older :) relatives feel that more muted colours are more suitable for them, alas.

Agree with previous posts - thicker yarn, cashmere-silk and some vibrant and/or multi-coloured yarn would be lovely.
How about you pick your favourite charity to knit for and everybody who sends a knitted/crocheted garment made out of your yarn gets 10% off their next order or maybe a free skein with their next order?
