crochet soap saver sachet

23 Apr 2008

Today is the second day this week that is hasn’t rained. I’m in a great mood.

Walking the dog was great, he ran around so much he collapsed when we got home on a half-empty pillow my sister was using to stuff her crochet animals...

I took a long hard look at the soap-scrap-stack I had near the sink in the bathroom this morning, I knew I had to do something about those un-useable slivers. I trekked across the road to Cancer Research Wales and picked up 3 skeins of cotton yarn (at a BARGAIN price of 20p!), after which I proceeded to make a soap saver sachet...

It’s a nifty little project, super quick and good for using up the last few metres of yarn from a ball! PLUS, if you’re anything like me and CAN’T BEAR to throw away any soap scraps, it’s a fantastic way to make your soap bar go further!

CROCHET SOAP SAVER SACHET PATTERN

Item is worked in rounds, using both ‘sides’ of base chain.

Cotton Yarn (2ply weight)

Size 1.75mm Crochet Hook

BASE ROW: ch 28, 1dc into 4th chain from hook, 1 dc into each of next 24ch, turn to other side of chain, and continue to dc in each ch on other side, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beginning of round. (50dc)

Commence Pattern

1st ROW: 5ch (count as 1dc and 2ch), skip 2sts, 1dc in next st, *ch2, skip 2sts, 1 dc in next st; rep from * to last 3 sts, ch2, sl st into 3rd of 3ch at beginning of round.

Repeat row 14 more times (15 rows)

16th ROW: ch1, sc in same st, *ch 9, skip 2ch, sc in next st; repeat from * until end of round, sl st into first sc. Bind off.

Weave 4 threads through the ‘holes’ in the bag in row 13, tie a knot at the end, braid, weave, or add beads at this point. Be Creative!

Don't restrict this pattern to being a soap saver sachet; try it with thicker yarn, ribbon, or fluffy thread, and you can make nice little gift bags or evening pouches!

If you have any questions about the pattern or if you find any mistakes, please let me know!
