Happy New Year everybody!
The Chopped Tomatoes Shop has had a HUGE update this morning, and I am kicking off the new year with new yarns and a competition!
I would like to have a name for this base yarn, which is 85% Superfine Wool, 15% Cashmere 2ply Heavy Laceweight... Because I will be stocking various laceweight yarns, each of them will need to be named otherwise my shop will be full of 'Laceweight #1, Laceweight #2' etc.. not very appealing! The winner whose name I pick will win a skein of aforementioned yarn in any colour from the Rustic Tranquility Collection:
Here are the rules:
- You may enter by posting a comment below, please make sure you enter a valid email address in the form so I can contact you if you win!
- You may submit as many entries as you wish, the more the better.
- Submission deadline is January 20th, 2010.
- Winner will be announced on January 21st 2010.. and his/her yarn will be in the post soon after that!
Now come on dudes.. I'm counting on you!
I have also started a Ravelry Group ' Chopped Tomatoes on Ravelry ', please check it out for news, competitions and updates! All yarns shown above are available for purchase here now!
Thanks for looking!

I think you should name your laceweight yarns by using the Tuwali words for one to ten:
Oha one
Duwa two
Tulu three
Opat four
Lima five
Onom six
Pitu seven
Walu eight
Hiyam nine
Himpulu ten
That keeps your need for a different word for each laceweight, along with the original inspiration for your colourways so far.
I would call the version shown "Staple Laceweight" because it is so lovely you will want to keep a collection of it to have when you want to knit something. It is truly beautiful!
I loved your account of your family's journeys to the Philippines, and I wondered if you could incorporate the idea of adventure and discovery in your name. My suggestions are 'Encounter', 'Roam', or 'Wayfarer'.
Hi Machelle! My suggestions are
• Banawe (for the rice terraces)
• 8th Wonder of the World
• Kiss the Clouds
• Ifugao
• Majestic
Lovely-looking collection! Good luck! :-)
I'm thinking maybe fruity names. I like simplicity. Maybe Guava, cantalope, honeydew, grapes, etc. Although, maybe that is too common? Hmmm.... I'll keep thinking :) Thanks for the contest. Your yarn looks YUMMY no matter what they are called!
In keeping with your green crusade, and the rural theme, how about Ipugo?
I think that as they're being created in Wales, you could choose some lovely Welsh words or names to use (none with a 'ch' or 'll' in though, to keep them easy to pronounce!)
My initial ideas include;
Cariad (love/beloved)
Annwyl (dear/darling)
Calon (heart)
Hyfryd (pleasant)
Ansawdd (quality!)
Of those, my favourite is definitely Cariad.
As it's a new year and new yarn what about Alpha, the next one could be Beta, etc.
or I like another A word Ariel.
Cashoo! As it's cashmere that sounds delightfully squooshy. Perhaps that's a bit obnoxious though.
Why not name it Philippines, since all the others were named from your trip?
I'd call it Dance - I'm picturing a heavier laceweight shawl fluttering in the breeze or being worn while dancing.
What a lovely collection Machelle!!
I would name it after greek gods and goddesses for example, athena, zeuss etc
good luck with it all

They look beautiful yarns. I would call them Premier, as they are the first in your line and look premium quality.
I've just had another idea - not sure if it's allowed, but what the heck! Anyway, how about naming your yarns after members of your family? You could start with your name and those of your sisters?
Trying to relate to the earthy colors, lighter weight, and natural fibers I have come up with three suggestions: Daintyspun, Dandywild, or Earthluxe.
Can't wait to hear the chosen name!
Beautiful yarns Machelle.
As it's a lace weight collection how about naming it after a type of lace stitch? I've found some lovely names in an old knitting book I bought in a thrift store in Canada: Eyelet Crown, Sunburst, Leaf and Twig, Fern, Bluebells, Lady Slipper, Pineapple, and perhaps my fave Eccentric Zigzag (it really does look eccentric!).
winter lace weight as you said it is wormer than a summer laceweight then you could at lest have four maybe five or six add icy and wet you get the idea but winter or icy would say it was for colder days and would make a heavier item i could certiantly imagine knitting with it it looks fantastic
I have two ideas :)
First, I think cashmere yarns are just heavenly to work with and wear. You could start the Heavenly line with names like:
~Nirvana
~Paradise
~Valhalla
~Samsara
~Tian
~Eden
~Firdaus
Second, you could just call it Chopped Tomatoes and name the individual yarns after varieties of tomatoes, like:
~Roma
~Heirloom
~Genovese
~Tigerella
~Zorba
~Peacevine
~Sweet Million
~Napoli
~Opalka
