cashmere blend sock yarn at chopped tomatoes

10 Mar 2010

The blog is officially out of hibernation, I've been super busy over the past few weeks trying to dye as much yarn as possible for the shop and for my upcoming show at Wonderwool Wales in April.

I'm happy to present my new yarn base, a gorgeously soft 4 ply cashmere blend that I have named Glock. Why? It's not a love of the famous Austrian GLOCK weapons manufacturer, it is in fact an amalgam of the words gloves and socks (this will not however stop me from citing gun-related puns!).  The yarn is also ideal for babywear but I thought if I added another word I would end up with something silly like Glocky, or Bloves...

I generally shy away from knitting socks, they bore me. But since I was going to be selling yarn to people who will probably make socks I thought I'd disarm my sock-block and make a pair. I'm happy to say that I quite enjoyed making them, the yarn isn't scratchy like the commercial superwash 'stuff' and I knitted up the above pair in 3 days! The pattern is completely ad-libbed, I kept changing the pattern to keep me entertained and I experimented with reinforced heels and toes.

Without further ado, here are a few mosaics of the yarns I uploaded into the shop this afternoon:

Techy Info:

4 ply Sock/Fingering Weight
80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon
400m/437yds, 100g/3.5oz

In the time it took me to write this post, I have sold out of Harvest Glock, but I will dye up a new batch tomorrow :)

Thanks for looking!

Goody! I am glad you have decided to do sock yarn, I like it for shawls and scarves as socks can get a bit boring.
