It's been a while since my last blog post due to a number of 'emergency giftings' so I've been knitting, crocheting and dyeing like a maniac! I did find the time to design some patterns and this crochet beret is making it's debut!
I find that lots of crochet berets are quite two dimensional, and unless you use super bulky yarns, or complicated puff stitch patterns, you don't get much warmth! This Winter Crochet Beret pattern employs a simple ridge stitch that creates air-pockets that trap warmth and has a lovely ribbing across the hat. The instructions are quite straightforward that a beginner can easily create this hat in a weekend... and the addition of elastic at the brim will make sizing much easier if you have a smaller sized head!
Knit up a pair of these toasty leggings to keep your baby's legs and toes warm this coming winter! You can use a single coloured yarn for classic tights, or get creative with some self striping sock yarn for a touch of whimsy!
After my trip to London for the Pulse show, I spent the past 2 days just recovering from all the hustle that is London! My back was aching, my feet were KILLING me, but all and all it was very worth it. I finished a dishcloth I was knitting on the train back home. I have been experimenting with different dyes and I managed a decent green to purple colourway...
I called it the Happy Dishcloth... the colours make me happy and I managed to make it in less than 2 days! It looks a little more like a towel, but that’s because I like to be able to drape the cloth over the oven door handle or fridge and I really can’t work with anything smaller... there never seems to be enough ‘dry’ areas in those square things!

It has been 9 days since I announced my Stash Buster Booties 'mission' and I have just finished knitting up my 4th pair!
Why Greemy? A few years ago, my sisters and I decided to 'invent' a new colour, and in my head, it was a mixture of green and brown, which ultimately always gave a mucky result with my coloured pencils! We called that colour Greem.
I haven't found a yarn with a 'Greemy' colour, but I compromised and used a lovely 100% wool yarn (for the top part of the booties), and soft dark cotton yarn (on the sole of the booties) instead!
I reduced the 'seam-sewing' on these booties by transferring my work onto double pointed needles after making the sole, this way I was able to work in the round and avoid sewing the leg seam...
